Planning Setting

Spider Diagram of Ideas of Settings to use within the school

Setting used for equilibrium

ATRIUM
The open atrium connotes a light cool atmosphere, the natural lighting and large space creates an airy open feeling. The white shades create a comfortable environment. The bright lighting will be ideal for filming as it will make it easier for the shot to see, and considering there will be a zoom used in what shot, it allows more light for the camera to focus more easily. This is ideal as it means when filming I do not have to consider the lighting. It also creates a comfortable environment typically seen at the opening of a horror.

DRAMA ROOM
The drama room uses synthetic unnatural lighting, this could be an additional positive quality as it adds to the already quite scary feel of the drama room. It is important for a classroom to be used as it is easily recognised by the audience, it creates a sense of familiarity bringing in the sense of the uncanny- making the familiar unfamiliar.  The empty space on a loose frame will create suspense, and an uncomfortable feel, as well as the hallway leading to the drama room. It will begin to horror feel leading to the disequilibrium, feeding the audiences expectations. The hallway creates an almost daunting feel, recognised within other films.

Main Scary Setting

UNDERGROUND
I chose this setting as the dark lighting will work well in the shot to create a scary feel, the bars make it feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable. The bars also create a dangerous feel. the fact that it looks crowded and comfortable adds to the dangerous feel. It is important for the main horror setting to look dangerous and scary as it makes the audience question the possibilities of danger and death, it also creates an initial horror feel as, a modern audience seeing a typical underground come to respond to the fear, meaning, the are naturally -due to the setting- expecting something bad to happen.
